Pet Peeves

I cannot stand nail biting, and I cannot handle when someone near me does it. If it is someone I don’t know I do try my best to ignore it and just look away. When I do know them very well I tell them to politely stop. The other day in class my friend was biting her nails, and I told her to stop, and we shared a laugh. I explained to her that when she does that I want to slap her hand and say “No, bad girl,” I know that is very weird of me. She just laughed; she has known me long enough to be used to it I laughed too, but that is just what I do to keep my sanity.

I love origami but being the artist that I am I just cannot do origami (Or any 3D art). It’s one of the reasons why I’m a Pencil Rebel, I draw! Any way I write too, but that is not important right now. I fold paper in half when I keep it in a book or something like that and I have to try and make it as even as possible. If it is off really bad like the corners are not even close to touching I have to fix it. If I see a paper that is folded in half and is really off I refold it. Crazy I know, but that is just who I am.

Staying on the topic of paper folding, another pet peeve I have is folding the corners of books.  This is the number one do not do in my opinion. I barely borrow any of my books to anyone, and when I do I warn them that they should not fold the pages. Doing this makes me very angry, because it ruins the overall look and feel of a book. I love books, so I like to keep them neat and with minimal damage. I WILL NOT ACCEPT FOLDED PAGES IN MY BOOKS!!!

Finally the next pet peeve I have is something I always get comments on, but hear me out I am not the only one with this. I cannot stand when my food touches. “You’re kidding me,” is what you are probably thinking or “Do you eat tacos or salsa their touching?” Yes in fact I love tacos and I like salsa with chips, but people misunderstand this most of the time. So instead of me trying to explain imagine this; you have a juicy stake on your plate with a side of corn. To me I cannot have the juices of the stake mingle with that of the corn, I just cannot stand the flavors mixing. That’s all yet there are exceptions like tacos and salsa and even nachos and salsa. I manage this perfectly well, I have lived with it since I was little so I’m used to it. I usually eat smaller portions or I eat one thing at a time.

The rest is just a mystery…

Movies

Drama: Seven pounds (2008)

An IRS tax collector named Tim Thomas is burdened by a terrible past when an accident caused his fiancĂ© and six strangers to die. Feeling at fault for the accident he makes it his mission to change the lives of seven strangers posing as his brother Ben Thomas. Sadly he falls in love with a woman named Emily who has a heart condition, and it almost changes his overall plan, but decides to continue with it to save her life. It is a very touching movie with a deep emotion that would make anyone cry. I loved this movie when I first watched it, it has a strong message. If you haven’t seen this movie I highly suggest that you watch it.

Action/Adventure: Twister

A weatherman named Bill Harding is trying to get his wife to sign divorce papers so he could marry his girl friend Melissa. Unfortunately that is postponed due to intense storms in Oklahoma. They team up with a group of storm chasers to try and insert measuring devices code named “Dorothy” into the heart of tornadoes.  I still love this movie, and I watch it every time I see that it is on television. I don’t know why I love it; by I used to watch so much as a kid that all my family could recite the lines word for word.

Horror: They (2002)

Now this is an interesting movie, I watched this when I was younger and it made me really afraid of the dark, sometimes I still have to have a light on. A woman named Julia Lund had terrible nightmares as a child, and she discovers that it might all be real. She is working for her masters in psychology when an old friend contacts her, and says that demons from the dark are out to get him, and he commits suicide. Julia fears that these demons are out to get her, and she becomes terrified of the dark. The down side to this is that from another prospective it seems that she could hurt an innocent person when she is just trying to protect herself. This is a scary movie, so don’t let your kids watch!

Comedy: The Princess Bride (1987)

This is a classic fairy tale, and is a story within a story. This is a very romantic comedy, and is just filled to the brim with laughter and fun twists. This story is told by a grandfather to his sick grandson, and has been a tradition passed down from father to son. The beautiful Buttercup falls in love with a peasant boy named Westley, yet for some reason he disappears when out at sea. While he is gone Buttercup is to be married to a prince who has her kidnapped to start a war. It is up to Westley upon his return as the dreaded pirate Roberts to rescue buttercup.

Romance: Practical Magic (1998)

Sally and Gillian Owens were raised by their aunts knowing they were different. They grew up being taught the use of practical magic, they also learn of their family curse. A curse that the men they fall in love with will be doomed to an untimely death. The two sisters as adults have to fight to protect themselves from Gillian’s evil boyfriend’s ghost (who the accidently murdered twice). Also while Sally tries not to fall in love again, with a detective who turns up looking Gillian’s dead boyfriend. This is a lovely romance with a happy ending, I love the way it was put together, and I love both Sandra Bullock, and Nicole Kidman.

Thriller: Secret Window (2004)

This was suggested to me by my friend who loves Johnny Depp Movies, I’m not a big fan of horror or thriller movies, but I enjoyed this one. I am a writer at heart, that much is true and as I watched this I fell in love with the story line and plot. The writer Mort Rainey is accused of plagiarism by a man calling himself John Shooter. As Mort waits for his evidence that he wrote the story first, Shooter becomes violent towards him; a few examples being starting his house on fire (Which only his soon to be ex-wife lives in). Also Shooter kills his old dog which is done with an old screwdriver. In the end it turns out it was just him feeling like his story needed the right ending so it had created another person in him to complete this.

Science fiction: Serenity (2005)

This movie was based off the show Firefly which is a science fiction show with only one season. In the future a spaceship called serenity is hiding a deadly secret. This secret is a person who was turned into a weapon by a twisted government. The crew of this ship finds themselves fighting against this military government, and bloodthirsty creatures who roam the uncharted areas of space called Reavers. While doing this they discover the secret of the deadly creatures by finding out the secret of the planet named “Miranda”. The crew decides to release the information they found on “Miranda” to the entire universe which they achieve in the end. This is a very good movie, with a very good plot, and I love good storylines.

Children: Lady and the Tramp (1955)

This is the romantic tale of an uptown cocker spaniel named Lady and her adventures with a mutt that calls himself the Tramp. I have always loved this movie I always watched it when I was little. My favorite character was always Jock the Scottish terrier. I used to only have this movie on a video tape, but sadly I went so long without seeing it since we stopped using out VCR (Oh goodness what is a VCR), just kidding. I received the DVD of Lady and the Tramp from my father as a gift, and I still love it. I find that I still love the old Disney movies, and Jock is still my favorite character in that movie, I always smile when I see him.

Academy awards winning picture of the year: The Blindside

This is the true story of Michael Oher, who was a homeless traumatized boy who became an all American football player. This is another film with Sandra Bullock and has yet another touching story line. The end always makes me cry, when Sandra Bullock who played his adoptive mother watches him go off to college very proud of him. This film deserved the Academy award as it was a very touching story. Anyone who has not seen this movie should watch it, it is worth it.

The “I wish I would have seen this in the theater”: Monster in law

I love this movie, I have always like Jane Fonda and in this movie she plays an old show host who just lost her job. She loves her only son, and is not to happy to discover that he has a girl friend, if that is not bad enough they are engaged to be married. Yet when he is called away it is a full out battle between Jane Fonda and her daughter in law to be played by Jennifer Lopez. This is a fun movie to watch and is filled with comedy, and romance. I love this movie, and my mom just hates the way Jane Fonda does her fake laughter in this movie.
