Why do we say celebrities who pass away are great when they die from drugs?

To be honest, I’m not quite so sure why we do this for the celebrities who have passed on from drugs. I think most people can empathize in some way with the situation because they know someone that has or is fighting drug addiction.  Could it also be the sadness of a life cut short? Most leave a lot of things undone. An example would be Michael Jackson. He left his young children without a father.  He had fought so hard to get children and now someone else is raising them.  My question is did they have any loyal friends who they could trust to help them through tough times?  We understand celebrities are only human and have weaknesses, and flaws like normal people.  But any true loyal friend would try something to help, right?

Does their death make them great, for some celebrities it does.  People who have enjoyed them when they were alive help keep their memories alive by buying memorabilia to keep it going.   It was reported that Whitney Houston’s last album was the hottest download on iTunes the day following her death.  It has also been reported that Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley are worth more today dead than they were when they were alive.  Could it just be our fascination or how we think celebrities should be put on a pedestal? When the pedestal is taken out from the celebrity and they fall from the lime light, then what?  What is this world of fame teaching children, that drugs are ok? Well it’s not ok. Many studies have shown they ruin families, and cut your life short. The dreams they were all working towards are crushed, and demolished. The truth is drugs will ruin your life.  Have these role models taught us that drugs are ok? I hope not.
There are many commercials that support rising above the influence and that is a very good thing.  As a young person if you saw your favorite actor of all time doing drugs, what would you do? Would you stand up and say, “Hey that is so wrong, drugs will kill you?” I think we live in a fast paced lime light environment where drugs are spiraling out of control.  I also think it is still truly up to us, to make the decision not to do drugs.  In the long run we should learn from celebrity’s mistakes and make the choice not to use drugs.  Their deaths should be a wakeup call for other celebrities and people who believe their drug use is under control. It can be hard to fight addiction, but it can be done.  If there was a choice it should be to never get started doing drugs.
If you think about it, if one of these celebrities was given a second chance to do life again, knowing they had a drug problem in the first life, would they follow the same path? Or would they choose a path to stand against the rising problem of drug use? Should society change how they see celebrities that have died from drug use? Unfortunately, in our world, I am not sure our society can due to the fascination with them and that is sad. The least we could do is to keep teaching our children that drugs are bad and that they should be avoided at all costs and if you get mixed up there is still help out there. No one should have to die due to drug overdose.

Into the future

In the future 26 years from now, if the world does not tragically end or the apocalypse does not happen in December 2012, I hope to be in a great career. I would have graduated from Minnesota State University of Moorhead, where I would have majored in graphic arts. I will be working for a large company making logos, or I will be working for NBC television in commercial design. I might even be designing credits for movies for Skywalker Studios. I would also be known as an author of a science fiction/fantasy novel.

I will be using a pen name since I don’t want to be known for my novelist adventures. I will be involved with my community’s theatre. Only a few people would actually know that I have written the books, unless I was needed to do a book signing.  I hope to do some traveling, with my mother, especially to Ireland and Scotland, since she would enjoy these places too.

I am not going to be married nor have children of my own. If anything, I will be involved with looking after my family.  I would also spend time with my nieces or nephews, and just spoil them like crazy. In the future I will buy my brother the car of his dreams, as I tell him I will, now, in the present. The best part is that I will have the money to pay for it in full.

My schedule would consist of working in either in my home office or a big corner office in a high rise building.  In this profession I have to be able to understand ideas clearly, and talk with a team since this job is a very social one. I believe that I will gain better experience with working in a group, and get over my fear of talking to people. Then I would probably head to my two bedroom condo.  Play with my Maine coon cat and work on a project for work. When I want to relax I will watch some television, and then draw some illustrations for a side hobby. Then I will put on some soothing tunes and drift off to a well rested sleep.
The rest is just a mystery…

About Thyself

I, World of Mystery, refuse to use my actual name because of my fear of the Internet information leak, and stolen identity. I don’t see how this can be entirely relevant since they have my email and such. I, myself, don’t even have a facebook account and my friends bother me about it all the time. To be completely honest, I don’t’ believe I am that interesting of a person. In a single word I’m normal except for one area of my life which is my creative imagination. Here is how I see it.
I am not such a social person, if I could I would just read, write, listen to music, or draw all day with little or no social interaction. There are a few people I enjoy being around, for example my close friends. Yet sometimes I want to be around my friends, because like anyone else I am only a human being; and as everyone knows humans are social beings. I love to read science fiction/fantasy, and my two older brothers openly call me a nerd for doing so. What they don’t know is that I know they are closet readers.
I am the youngest of three and the only girl other than my mother in my household. Also with my siblings, I assure you that I am not the only artist out of all of us. In fact I am not even the best compared to my older brothers. My family is an important piece of my life, I look up to my brothers and I respect them, but I will not openly admit it to either of them. I love both of my parents for all that they have done for me, and for what they will help me with in the future. One of my favorite times I enjoy with my family is at dinner, when we all sit together and have conversations, and blurt out answers to “Family Feud”.
I have a love of animals; I have three cats with different personalities and interesting habits. I love to read, write short stories or poems, draw funny comics, or just pictures. I love and respect my family, I fear the open nature of the Internet, and the intent of a person over the Internet. This is what happens in my version of this world, and how I view it with its ups and its downs, with its good and bad. This can be a very dark view, but you just have to know how to be happy through all its hardships.
