Why do we say celebrities who pass away are great when they die from drugs?

To be honest, I’m not quite so sure why we do this for the celebrities who have passed on from drugs. I think most people can empathize in some way with the situation because they know someone that has or is fighting drug addiction.  Could it also be the sadness of a life cut short? Most leave a lot of things undone. An example would be Michael Jackson. He left his young children without a father.  He had fought so hard to get children and now someone else is raising them.  My question is did they have any loyal friends who they could trust to help them through tough times?  We understand celebrities are only human and have weaknesses, and flaws like normal people.  But any true loyal friend would try something to help, right?

Does their death make them great, for some celebrities it does.  People who have enjoyed them when they were alive help keep their memories alive by buying memorabilia to keep it going.   It was reported that Whitney Houston’s last album was the hottest download on iTunes the day following her death.  It has also been reported that Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley are worth more today dead than they were when they were alive.  Could it just be our fascination or how we think celebrities should be put on a pedestal? When the pedestal is taken out from the celebrity and they fall from the lime light, then what?  What is this world of fame teaching children, that drugs are ok? Well it’s not ok. Many studies have shown they ruin families, and cut your life short. The dreams they were all working towards are crushed, and demolished. The truth is drugs will ruin your life.  Have these role models taught us that drugs are ok? I hope not.
There are many commercials that support rising above the influence and that is a very good thing.  As a young person if you saw your favorite actor of all time doing drugs, what would you do? Would you stand up and say, “Hey that is so wrong, drugs will kill you?” I think we live in a fast paced lime light environment where drugs are spiraling out of control.  I also think it is still truly up to us, to make the decision not to do drugs.  In the long run we should learn from celebrity’s mistakes and make the choice not to use drugs.  Their deaths should be a wakeup call for other celebrities and people who believe their drug use is under control. It can be hard to fight addiction, but it can be done.  If there was a choice it should be to never get started doing drugs.
If you think about it, if one of these celebrities was given a second chance to do life again, knowing they had a drug problem in the first life, would they follow the same path? Or would they choose a path to stand against the rising problem of drug use? Should society change how they see celebrities that have died from drug use? Unfortunately, in our world, I am not sure our society can due to the fascination with them and that is sad. The least we could do is to keep teaching our children that drugs are bad and that they should be avoided at all costs and if you get mixed up there is still help out there. No one should have to die due to drug overdose.
